Acceptance
By downloading, installing, or using WhatTheClip, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the software.
These terms are written in plain language to make the product boundaries understandable.
Licence and permitted use
WhatTheClip grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use a copy that has been made available to you, subject to these terms and any edition-specific terms shown with that copy.
You may use WhatTheClip for personal or business work. You may not resell, redistribute, reverse engineer beyond rights granted by applicable law, or use the product to access information you are not entitled to handle.
If you obtain WhatTheClip through the Mac App Store, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement and applicable Apple Media Services terms govern the Store licence, purchase, billing, refund, and distribution relationship. This page provides product-specific terms and disclosures; it does not replace rights that Apple terms or applicable law give you.
Your clipboard and your responsibility
You control what you copy, save, assign to favorite slots, paste, export, or delete. If you copy confidential, regulated, private, copyrighted, or other third-party information, you are responsible for having the rights or permission needed to handle and reuse it.
WhatTheClip is a local utility and does not provide a third-party content catalogue. It can make user-supplied clipboard content easier to find, but it cannot decide whether that content should have been copied, stored, or pasted in the first place.
Local storage is not a backup
Clipboard history and favorites are convenience features, not a backup system. Items can be pruned, deleted, become unreadable after system changes, or depend on files and permissions outside WhatTheClip's control.
Keep important source files, documents, credentials, and records in a suitable durable system.
Security boundaries
Managed payload files are encrypted at rest using a local Keychain-backed key. Titles, previews, profile names, timestamps, and other metadata may remain visible in the local app database.
Encryption reduces exposure of stored payload files. It does not guarantee that copied content cannot appear elsewhere on your Mac, inside the destination app, in backups, in screenshots, or in other software that can access the clipboard.

Permissions and automation
The Mac App Store edition keeps clipboard capture off until you explicitly enable it. Enabling capture does not enable global hotkeys or automatic paste; those controls remain separate in Settings.
Clipboard capture, global shortcuts, overlay navigation, login behavior, and automatic paste depend on your choices, macOS permissions, and the behavior of the active destination app.
You can revoke permissions or disable automation at any time. If macOS or another app blocks a paste transaction, WhatTheClip may copy the selected content and ask you to paste manually.

Updates and compatibility
WhatTheClip may provide fixes, improvements, security changes, or compatibility updates. A future macOS release or destination-app update may change clipboard, permission, or automation behavior.
Not every older version will be supported indefinitely. The Download page states the minimum system requirements.
No promise of indefinite updates, permanent availability, or support for every future macOS release is made unless a verified edition offer explicitly states otherwise.
Third-party services
Website hosting and any future distribution service may rely on third-party providers. Their services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
WhatTheClip is not responsible for an external provider's outage or policy change, but the product will identify a provider before asking you to submit information to it.
Warranty disclaimer
WhatTheClip is provided on an “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. Clipboard capture, recovery, global shortcuts, and paste automation may fail because of permissions, file availability, system security, destination-app behavior, or operating-system changes.
No promise is made that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable as the only copy of important data.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, WhatTheClip and its owner will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages arising from use of the software, loss of clipboard history, automation failure, or unavailable third-party services.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Suspension or termination
Access may be suspended or terminated if the software is used unlawfully or these terms are materially breached.
You can stop using WhatTheClip at any time. The default uninstall preparation preserves local data; use the separate Clear Local Data action first if you want history, profiles, favorites, payload files, custom logos, temporary decrypted copies, and app-managed database snapshots removed.
Deletion applies to WhatTheClip-managed storage. It cannot remove operating-system or third-party backups, content already pasted into another app, exported copies, screenshots, or other copies outside the app's control.
