Will WhatTheClip have a free version?
Yes. The planned Free tier includes 10 recent clippings, one App Profile with three favourite slots, and support for text, links, and local files. Image clipping and image uploads are not included.
What does WhatTheClip Full include?
Full unlocks every current product capability: configurable history from 10 to 50 items, multiple App Profiles, 10 favourite slots per profile, text, links, images, local files, image compression presets, and the complete overlay workflow.
Is the R160 or US$10 price a subscription?
No. Full is planned as a one-time purchase with lifetime updates. The purchase connection is not live yet.
South African pricing is R160. The international price is US$10. Both prices remain visible on the Pricing page, and the future checkout will be responsible for the final region and currency.
What is an App Profile?
An App Profile groups the favourite slots you use in a particular workflow. A support profile might contain replies and links, while a coding profile might contain snippets and review comments.
The Free tier includes one profile with three favourite slots. Full supports multiple profiles with 10 numbered slots in each profile.
What counts toward the 10-item Free limit?
The limit applies to recent clipboard history. Favourite slots are separate intentional saves. As new clipboard items arrive, older history is pruned to keep the list at 10.
Can Free save images?
No. Image clippings, screenshots, image uploads, and image compression presets are Full features.
Free still supports text, links, and local file clippings.
Does WhatTheClip upload clipboard content?
The current app keeps managed clipboard payloads on the Mac. It has no CloudKit clipboard sync, remote clipboard processing, product analytics, or remote application logging.
Managed payload files are encrypted locally with a Keychain-backed key. Titles, previews, timestamps, profile names, and slot metadata can remain visible locally so the app can present and organise saved items. Read the Privacy Policy and Security page for the precise boundary.
Which permissions does it need?
Clipboard access supports history. Accessibility supports user-triggered paste into the previous app. Input Monitoring supports global shortcuts and overlay navigation while another app is active. File access only applies to copied or explicitly selected local files, and Keychain stores the local payload-encryption key.

Does automatic paste work in every Mac app?
WhatTheClip uses the standard macOS Command-V path after restoring the previous target. The destination app still controls whether it accepts the paste. If automation is blocked, the selected content can remain available for a manual Command-V paste.
Which Macs are supported?
The currently evidenced public target is Apple silicon running macOS 14 or later. Broader architecture support should not be advertised until a universal build has been produced and tested.
Is the public download available?
Not yet. The signed public DMG, checksum, and release notes are still being prepared. The Download page is the source of truth for availability.
