Raycast Clipboard History is a capable part of a much larger productivity product. WhatTheClip is a dedicated clipboard workflow. That difference matters more than a checklist of similar actions.
WhatTheClip builds the product discussed here. The Raycast details were checked against Raycast’s official Clipboard History manual and pricing page on 23 August 2026. Raycast changes quickly, so verify its current product pages before choosing.
The practical difference
Raycast combines clipboard history with Root Search, snippets, Quicklinks, extensions, window management, notes, AI, and other commands. Its clipboard tool supports searching and filtering multiple content types, pinning, renaming, editing, text recognition, format choices, and sequential paste. The current Free plan keeps up to three months of clipboard history; longer periods and unlimited retention are Pro options.
WhatTheClip keeps the problem narrower. Recent history is intentionally bounded. Material you deliberately reuse belongs in App Profiles and numbered favourite slots, where a Code profile can stay separate from Support, Mail, or design work. The overlay then returns the selected item to the previous app.
Choose Raycast when it already runs your Mac
Raycast is the stronger choice when you want one launcher for many productivity jobs and its clipboard history fits naturally inside that system. Its free core feature set is substantial, and its history actions go well beyond basic recovery.
Choose WhatTheClip when you want a dedicated clipboard interface with a visible distinction between temporary history and intentional, app-specific reuse. It is not trying to replace application search, window management, extensions, or AI commands.

Privacy needs a precise comparison
Raycast says copied content remains on the computer and its clipboard-history documentation includes controls for excluded applications. Review its current settings if you use password managers, banking apps, or other sensitive tools.
WhatTheClip keeps managed clipboard payloads on the Mac, encrypts managed payload files locally, and has no CloudKit clipboard sync, product analytics, remote clipboard processing, or remote application logging. Titles and short previews can remain visible local metadata; the privacy explanation states that boundary directly.
Choose based on the surrounding workflow
If clipboard history is one command inside a much larger launcher, Raycast is difficult to ignore. If the repeated material itself needs app-specific structure and numbered keyboard access, explore WhatTheClip App Profiles, reusable favourites, and the keyboard overlay.
